The cupboards are made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start. If your home has a neat cupboard around the boiler and a cupboard for the meters with easy access, that is what fitted cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
A good part of the housing around Monks Orchard is interwar, semi-detached or detached. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Boards, parts and paint
Moisture-resistant MDF
For painted doors and panels, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it’s stable and smooth.
Spray-painted finish
For a smooth, even look, spray painting is a good choice, and it is finished before fitting day.
What happens on fitting day
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases.
Common questions about fitted cupboards
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Monks Orchard?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
I live near Elmers End station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. To send them, use our contact form.
How long will the cupboards take to fit?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk it through during the design visit.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.
