Fitted wardrobes for your home in Monks Orchard
Fitted wardrobes in Monks Orchard: what you get
Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet. If you’re living with empty alcoves in the bedroom and space under the eaves going to waste, fitted wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Around Monks Orchard, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. That’s where fitted wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

What happens on fitting day
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.

Monks Orchard homes and fitted wardrobes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Monks Orchard were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 42%) and before 1919 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. Where a home in Monks Orchard is on or beside a main road, it is useful to mention that at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day. Terraced houses are home to about 34% of households in the area around Monks Orchard, according to Census 2021. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, both good spaces for fitted storage.
Addington Palace, about 1.8 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If you live in a flat close to Elmers End station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is one of the older houses near St George The Martyr Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
Monks Orchard is within the London Borough of Croydon, about 3 miles north-west of Thornton Heath. Wherever you are in Monks Orchard, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. In Croydon, Monks Orchard is one of the places we cover.

Near you in Monks Orchard
Around Monks Orchard, we cover homes near Orchard Way Primary School and The Cricketers pub and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Elmers End station, about 1.2 miles north. Caring for painted furniture
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Think about where you will keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
- Empty the area where we’ll be working
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
- Tell us which walls face outside
Do not pack clothes tight against the back panel where the wardrobe sits on an outside wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.
Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Rails and shelves are planned for normal use, so tell us at the design visit if you need to store something heavy.
Flats, leases and landlords
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it during the design visit.
Questions from Monks Orchard
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Monks Orchard?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Is Monks Orchard in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes. Monks Orchard is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Croydon and London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you are in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
How we price fitted wardrobes
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- The width and height of the space
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking during the design visit.
What we need to know
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- How you want to use the space
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
What we don’t do
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
