Fitted wardrobes across DA15: what to expect

Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes.

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

  1. You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.

What goes into your quote

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across DA15

Bedrooms across DA15 might have alcoves, sloping ceilings, bulkheads or none of these. Each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls and floor. You choose the colour and whether it is spray-painted or hand-painted.

In the DA15 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 44%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. More than a third of the homes in DA15 (about 44%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. About 25% of homes in DA15 were built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.

We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in DA15, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. The process is the same wherever you are: a design visit, a written quote, then making and fitting.

Blackfen: For families living near Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Living in a block of flats near Falconwood station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

What it costs

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Getting in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll typically ask about:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Honest limits

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Structural changes to the room
  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

With off-the-shelf wardrobes, the colour choice is the maker’s. We paint fitted wardrobes in the colour you choose. Bespoke work does take longer than buying from a shop.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you cover DA15?

Yes. Our area is the whole of London: every borough and the City of London, DA15 included.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

We plan the sections around the route into your flat. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?

We plan it with you at the measuring visit, starting from the clothes you have. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We look at it with you when we measure.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
