Fitted wardrobes in Canons Park: what you get

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. If you are living with not enough hanging space and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Canons Park, so it is a room shape worth planning for. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

Our quotes are written in plain words. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

What it’s made from

Plinths and scribe strips

Most fitted wardrobes in older homes need scribing at the sides and top. It is what makes the wardrobe look built in.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, which suits wardrobe carcasses, shelves and drawers. Its layered edge can be painted or left on show.

Why bespoke in Canons Park?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there’s nowhere for dust to collect on top. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Fitting day, step by step

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. We visit to measure the room and talk through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too. Tell us about parking as well, as a van normally needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
  5. Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.

How to prepare

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Canons Park

In the streets around Canons Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 54%) and the years since 2000 (about 21%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Canons Park is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Harrow are set locally. If your road in Canons Park falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.

For an older house near Church of St Lawrence, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live near Edgwarebury Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. The wider area includes historic houses like Headstone Manor, about 3 miles west. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check during the design visit.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.

Questions from Canons Park

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Canons Park?

Yes, we work across Harrow, Canons Park included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Canons Park?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused. We measure the bed and the room at the design visit.

How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?

It is worked out with you when we measure, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.

Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. The wardrobe is shaped to the ceiling line, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns tricky space into storage.

What we do not do

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Treating damp or mould on the walls
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes
  • Structural changes to the room

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
