Fitted wardrobes in Hampton, Richmond upon Thames

Planning fitted wardrobes for a home in Hampton? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

About our fitted wardrobes in Hampton

Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. People normally come to us about musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall and not enough hanging space; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. A big part of the housing around Hampton is interwar, semi-detached or detached. We work in lofts that are already converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Why bespoke in Hampton?

Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, then put together in the room. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Looking after your furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Check the route into your flat, not just the room
  • Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
  • Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
  • Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall in advance

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners.

Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads, so mention anything unusually heavy when we plan.

Fitted wardrobes in Hampton: local notes

Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 33% of the housing in the streets around Hampton, with about 21% built between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Hampton. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If your home is one of the older houses near All Saints' Hampton, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For families living near Hampton Infant School and Nursery, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Strawberry Hill House, about 2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Hampton is in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, about 2 miles north-east of Twickenham. We cover Hampton as part of our work across Richmond upon Thames, and the process is the same everywhere we work. In Richmond upon Thames, Hampton is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 19 places on our list.

Every address in TW12 and TW11 is covered for fitted wardrobes, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Whether you live on a street such as Station Road, High Street and Old Farm Road or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. Hampton sits close to the A3008, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. Neighbouring places we cover for fitted wardrobes include Hanworth (1 mile north-west), Hampton Hill (1 mile east), Fulwell (1 mile north-east) and Teddington (2 miles east). What affects the price in Hampton

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The internal fittings
  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking near your home
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote.

Getting in touch

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Approximate measurements of the space

For a quote for fitted wardrobes in Hampton, send us a few details through our contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

What happens on fitting day

At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in not just the room. Fitted wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you.
  3. We send a written quote with the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hampton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hampton station?

Yes, homes across Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that is often wasted, with wardrobes at the sides and cupboards overhead. The bed size and room are measured when we visit.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Should I send photos?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
