Fitted wardrobes in TW11: how it works
What goes inside is where a fitted wardrobe earns its place. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own, so coats and dresses have room and shirts don’t waste height. It helps to think about what you wear most before we meet. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and damp or musty clothes against an external wall.
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch and tell us what you keep in your wardrobes now.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.
How our quotes work
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Landmarks near Teddington
Our area takes in the homes around Christ Church, Newland House School and Bushy Park and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include Park Hotel (close by, under half a mile south-west), St Mary's and St Peter's Church of England Primary School (under half a mile north-west) and Turing House School (less than half a mile west). There’s a railway station in Teddington itself: Teddington station. Well-known places in the area include Bentall Centre (1.6 miles south-east) and Teddington Memorial Hospital (a few minutes’ walk west). Green spaces nearby include Ham Lands.
Homes across TW11 and their bedrooms
If your bedroom in TW11 has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Each design is scribed and levelled on site.
Homes built before 1919 make up about 32% of the housing in TW11, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 1 of the 7 places in TW11 with their own pages here has its centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, TW11 included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.
Teddington: The wider area includes historic houses like Strawberry Hill House, about 0.8 miles north. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If your children go to St Mary's and St Peter's Church of England Primary School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Under a sloping ceiling, standard wardrobes leave most of the space unused. A bespoke wardrobe can be shaped to follow the slope, with hanging where it is tall and drawers or shelves where it is low.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
Flats, leases and landlords
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Tall doors need a stable material. MDF gives a flat, smooth surface that paints well.
When is bespoke worth it?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in TW11
Moving home often prompts it. Wardrobes from an old home rarely suit a new room, or will not go up the stairs at all. Fitted wardrobes are designed for the room you have now.
We are often asked to help with:
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Not enough hanging space
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in TW11
Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?
Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. The slope is measured at the measuring visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
The inside is planned around your clothes. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes, in the proportions you need. We plan it with you when we visit.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That is why we measure the route, not just the room. If you are in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how awkward the walls are all play a part. You’ll get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
It is made at our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. After that, we fit it in your home.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
