Fitted wardrobes in TW12: how it works

Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. The layout is planned so the room doesn’t feel boxed in. Most enquiries start with standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use.

What goes into your quote

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

In Hampton, that includes homes near All Saints' Hampton, Carlisle Park and Hampton High. For rail, the closest station is Hampton station, about 0.5 miles south. Nearby you will also find Metropolitan Traffic Police Museum (0.7 miles south-east) and Teddington Memorial Hospital (1.5 miles east). Fitted wardrobes across TW12: local notes

TW12 has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. Fitted wardrobes are drawn up to suit the room you actually have.

The biggest shares of homes in the TW12 postcode district were built before 1919 (about 29%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings.

We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, and TW12 is part of that. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.

Hampton: If your children go to Hampton Infant School and Nursery or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. If you live near Carlisle Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Where other trades come in

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Decorating or plastering the room
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Empty the area where we’ll be working
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have

Once clothes go in and the wardrobes are in daily use, doors may settle slightly. Hinges can normally be adjusted to line the doors up again, and sliding doors can be reset on their track.

Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads, so tell us during the design visit if you need to store something heavy.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in TW12

For some, it’s about a calmer room. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces.

We are often asked to help with:

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Too little room for clothes

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How parking will work on your street
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in TW12

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The time on site depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.

What materials do you use?

We build with moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. The materials are named in your written quote.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls, using moisture-resistant MDF. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. It’s planned so there’s room around the bed and the room does not feel enclosed.
