Questions we’re often asked

Do you cover homes near Dagenham Dock station?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Hornchurch Marshes?

Yes, Hornchurch Marshes is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough measurements. You can send them when you use our contact form.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

How we make fitted wardrobes for Hornchurch Marshes

You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. Most enquiries start with wasted space beside the chimney breast and an awkward slope in a loft bedroom, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In a compact bedroom, the swing of hinged doors can clash with the bed, so the layout and the kind of door are worked out together. Around Hornchurch Marshes, many homes date from 2000 onwards, and newer bedrooms tend to be on the small side. The space in front is measured as carefully as the wall.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Hornchurch Marshes

The usual reason is simple: there isn’t enough storage. Clothes end up on chairs, in boxes under the bed or in another room. Built-in wardrobes make use of the full wall, up to the ceiling, which adds a lot of space without taking more floor.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • An tricky slope in a loft bedroom
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed

For a family home near Brook Sixth Form and Academy, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

How we price fitted wardrobes

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Parking near your home

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.

What to send when you contact us

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • How you want to use the space
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Before and after fitting day

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Work out the split between long and short hanging
  • In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open

Don’t pack clothes tight against the back panel, especially on an external wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.

Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Rails and shelves are planned for normal use.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. We send a written quote with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

Preparing the room

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are

Where other trades come in

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
