Questions from Kingston Vale
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Kingston Vale?
Yes. Kingston Vale is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Merton and London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Kingston Vale?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?
We plan it with you during the design visit, starting from the clothes you have. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
Do you do the electrics?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
How long does it take to fit wardrobes?
It depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.
How do I get started?
It’s easiest to use our contact form with some details about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.
About our fitted wardrobes in Kingston Vale
Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. If you’re living with space under the eaves going to waste and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Kingston Vale, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. Small rooms like that suit fitted wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What it costs
What you pay depends on:
- The internal fittings
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How big the furniture is
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
What we need to know
Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- How you want to use the space
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, use our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface on large doors. It suits a crisp, modern look as well as a classic panelled door.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting lets you judge the colour in the room as it goes on. Scribed edges and joins are painted along with the rest.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Preparing the room
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
Starting with a design visit
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Bought wardrobes come in the maker’s finishes. Fitted wardrobes are painted in a colour agreed with you, spray painted or hand painted. Bespoke work isn’t as quick as buying from a shop, since there is a design visit, a quote and workshop time first. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
