About our fitted wardrobes in Mapesbury

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall.

A large share of the homes around Mapesbury date from 2000 onwards, and a newer bedroom seldom comes with storage that fits how you live. Fitted wardrobes can be designed around the window, the radiator and the door swing, so the room still works. In a managed block, the lift and delivery rules are worth checking before fitting day.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so it’s useful to sort them out ahead of time. Fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

How to get a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Before and after fitting day

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • Work out the split between long and short hanging

With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then. Don’t let shoes or bags sit in the track.

Keep any ventilation gaps clear, particularly on an external wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and deal with any damp early.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Mapesbury

I live near Wembley Stadium station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Mapesbury?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. It is planned so there is room around the bed and the room doesn’t feel enclosed.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You’ll get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can be plain, panelled or shaped to suit the room. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.

Birch plywood

Drawers get heavy use, so we often make the boxes from birch plywood, so they hold their shape.

Bedrooms in Mapesbury: local notes

About 58% of the homes in the area around Mapesbury went up since 2000, and about 30% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Mapesbury, Historic England’s list includes Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Newer homes are more common around Mapesbury than across Brent: about 58% date from 2000 onwards, against about 23%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That makes plasterboard stud walls and compact rooms more likely, which shapes the fixings and sizes.

If you live in a period home close to St Michael the Archangel, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live near St. Raphael's Edible Garden, fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Flats, conversions and lettings

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the design visit.

What prompts fitted wardrobes in Mapesbury

Sharing a bedroom means sharing the wardrobe. A fitted wardrobe can be planned with separate sections, each with its own mix of hanging, shelves and drawers.

People usually get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • Too little room for clothes
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way

For families living near St Joseph's RC Infant School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
