Bespoke kitchens in Mapesbury

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, planned around what you store. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts tricky space to work. People usually come to us about cabinets built around the appliances you choose and extra cupboard space; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

A newer kitchen may have a wide glazed door or a big window on one wall, so storage has to be planned around the glass. Since many homes around Mapesbury date from 2000 onwards, tall units and an island or peninsula can make up the difference. Fixings are chosen for plasterboard where that is what the walls are.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Mapesbury

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Mapesbury?

Yes, Mapesbury is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Brent and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Wembley Stadium station?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.

How long does fitting take?

It depends on the kitchen. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You tell us about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
  2. We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room. Tell us about parking too, as a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. In an open-plan room, standalone pieces can look scattered, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit.

When is bespoke worth it?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Kitchens in Mapesbury homes

About 58% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Mapesbury went up since 2000, and about 30% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Mapesbury, Historic England’s list includes Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. About 58% of homes around Mapesbury were built since 2000, well above the figure for Brent as a whole, about 23%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael the Archangel, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If you live near St. Raphael's Edible Garden, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For a family home near St Joseph's RC Infant School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

Caring for painted furniture

These points come up often when people plan bespoke kitchens. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Allow space to walk round an island
  • Talk to your other trades in good time

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

Talk to your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer early. Their work and ours need to fit together, and it’s easier when everyone works from the same design.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

We make doors in a style that suits the house, painted in a colour you choose.

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF for many kitchen doors and panels, because it copes with a room that gets warm and steamy.
