Fitted wardrobes in Harlesden, Brent

Planning fitted wardrobes for a home in Harlesden? We start with a design visit and a written quote, before anything is made.

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes

Fitted wardrobes for your home in Harlesden

Caring for painted furniture

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • List the things that won’t hang, like jumpers and shoes
  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • In a leasehold flat, read the lease first

Fill the rails gradually and spread the weight along them instead of crowding one section. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support, so the rail stays straight.

Let doors close gently rather than slamming. It keeps hinges and runners in adjustment longer.

Fitted wardrobes in Harlesden: what you get

Doors can be hinged or sliding. Hinged doors open a whole section at once. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. If you’re living with a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall, fitted wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

In houses built before 1919, a floor can drop noticeably from one side of a room to the other, and a large share of the homes around Harlesden are that old. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

When you need someone else

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Harlesden?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and Harlesden is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

My home in Harlesden is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?

We plan the sections around the route into your flat, then assembled in the bedroom. Let us know if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, then put together in the room. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so off-the-shelf pieces either do not fit or leave a gap either side. Furniture made for the space fills it.

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Harlesden

About 52% of the homes in the area around Harlesden went up before 1919, and about 32% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Harlesden is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home in Harlesden is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

Living in a block of flats near Willesden Junction station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your children go to John Keble CofE Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of All Souls, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Fitting day, step by step

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Getting a quote

It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
