Fitted wardrobes in Brent Park: what you get

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about wasted space beside the chimney breast and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes.

Around Brent Park, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. Many 1930s houses have a small box room over the stairs, often with a raised bulkhead in the floor. Main bedrooms from that era are often a good size, with a bay window at the front.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the fitted wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

What fitted wardrobes can’t fix

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. How it works.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Brent Park

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Brent Park were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and since 2000 (about 27%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Brent Park include Church of St Mary (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 40% of households in the area around Brent Park live in purpose-built flats, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If you live in a flat close to Stonebridge Park station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For families living near Mitchell Brook Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to St. Raphael's Edible Garden? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Brent Park

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Stonebridge Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

The space in front of the wardrobe typically decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We’ll look at the room with you at the design visit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

We plan the sections around the route into your flat, then assembled in the bedroom. Tell us if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

How it is made

Plinths and scribe strips

Scribe strips are trimmed on site to follow the walls and ceiling. It is how a straight carcass meets a wall that isn’t straight.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the wardrobes are fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up, and it suits a softer, traditional look.

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them at the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard wardrobes can’t follow a slope. A fitted wardrobe can be shaped to the ceiling line, with hanging where it’s tall and drawers or shelves where it’s low. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.
