Bedroom storage in Neasden

About 40% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Neasden went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 33% before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Neasden is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Brent sets its own rules. If your street in Neasden is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.

For an older house near St Catherine's Church Neasden with St Paul, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For families living near Northview Junior and Infant School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mary, about 0.5 miles south of the centre of Neasden, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

Fitted wardrobes in Neasden: what you get

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. Moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice there too. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are several odd pieces where one run of storage would do and bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes.

A bedroom in a house from between the wars usually has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. Around Neasden, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Practical tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
  • Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
  • Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat

A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough to clean painted doors. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays.

Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

Fitting day, step by step

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

How to get a quote

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot usually do that in an older room.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

I live in a flat in Neasden. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Is Neasden in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes, Neasden is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Brent and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

Can you build wardrobes around a bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.

How do I get a quote?

It is easiest to message us from the contact page and tell us about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

It’s common, and it is allowed for. The wardrobe is set level with a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls, so the doors line up properly.

What affects the price in Neasden

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Parking near your home

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

What we need to know

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:

  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
