Fitted Wardrobes in Plumstead
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Plumstead, each designed at a visit to your home.
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes

Fitted wardrobes in Plumstead: what you get
The inside matters as much as the doors. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own. It is worth noting the clothes you reach for most before the design visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a bedroom that never feels tidy and clothes with nowhere proper to go.
Where the window, radiator and door sit decides most of a bedroom layout. For any home in Plumstead, those are the first things we note during the design visit, and fitted furniture is planned around them. Nothing is built tight over a radiator, so the heat still reaches the room.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

How it’s made
Hanging rails
A long rail needs a support in the middle when it carries winter coats. Rail lengths are planned so they stay straight.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It suits bedrooms where the wardrobe sits on an external wall.
How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what’s near you at the measuring visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.
- You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
- Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Advice
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
What we do not do
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:
- Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
- The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Do you cover homes near Plumstead station?

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Plumstead?
Yes, we work across Greenwich, Plumstead included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.
Can you build wardrobes around a bed?
Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused and can include bedside shelves. The bed size and room are measured when we visit.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
How long does it take to fit wardrobes?
The time on site depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
The space in front of the wardrobe normally decides it. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better. We look at it with you when we measure.

For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Plumstead is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. About 48% of households in the neighbourhood around Plumstead live in purpose-built flats, the 2021 Census shows. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Danson House, about 2.7 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. For families living near South Rise Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. Living in a block of flats near Plumstead station? Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own, and we can include adjustable shelves where you want flexibility. Standard widths and heights seldom suit an actual room, so it leaves gaps at the ends and empty space above. Fitted furniture is made to the room.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
