Fitted wardrobes in Falconwood: what you get

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. Long coats and dresses need one tall section, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it, keeping rails at a height they can reach. If you are living with too little room for clothes and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A bedroom in a house from between the wars usually has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Falconwood, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Falconwood?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

I live near Welling station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The fitting depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The wardrobes are built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe to help avoid condensation and mould.

What if my bedroom floor is not level?

Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the doors hang true.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Falconwood

In the streets around Falconwood, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 73%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. More than half of the homes in the area around Falconwood (about 73%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 61% of households in the area around Falconwood, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

For a flat near Welling station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For an older house near Bishop Ridley Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the bedroom, and we arrange a design visit.
  2. We visit to measure the room and discuss the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. We send a quote in writing for the wardrobes, so you can see what’s included.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

A finished loft conversion often leaves a new bedroom with sloping walls and no storage. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty, leaving the floor open.

If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:

  • Mismatched bedroom furniture
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • A sloping ceiling that is hard to use

If your children go to Bishop Ridley Church of England VA Primary School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

When is bespoke worth it?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Caring for painted furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
  • Empty the area where we’ll be working
  • For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays, which can mark the finish.

Do not dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. Opening a window now and then helps.
