- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
Fitted wardrobes for your home in Greenwich
Fitted wardrobes in Greenwich: what you get
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. If you are living with condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and wardrobes that are full to bursting, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
In a compact bedroom, the swing of hinged doors can clash with the bed, so the layout and the kind of door are worked out together. Many homes around Greenwich were built since 2000, and bedrooms in newer homes are often compact. We measure the space in front as well as the wall.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
Greenwich homes and fitted wardrobes
In the area around Greenwich, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 36%) and the years since 2000 (about 35%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Greenwich. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, the rest of London included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Greenwich is covered by it. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.
Living in a block of flats near Maze Hill station? Then it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Royal Observatory, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Greenwich is about 3 miles east of Plumstead, part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Whether your home in Greenwich is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Our work takes in places right across the rest of London, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Every home in SE10, SE3 and SE8 is within our area for fitted wardrobes. Whether you live on a street such as Cade Road, Webb Road and Creek Road or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. Greenwich is near the A2203 and A2211; on busy main roads, unloading fitted wardrobes takes a little planning. We also cover Maze Hill (1 mile north-east), Vanbrugh Park Estate (1 mile east), Blackheath (1 mile south-east), Westcombe Park (1 mile east) and Isle of Dogs (1 mile north-west). Other parts of the rest of London we cover include Plumstead (3 miles east), Eltham (3 miles south-east), Woolwich (3 miles east), Well Hall (3 miles south-east), Coldharbour (4 miles south-east) and Charlton (2 miles east).
What’s near Greenwich
In Greenwich, that includes homes near The Plume of Feathers pub, John Roan School and St. Paul's. Greenwich has its own railway station: Maze Hill station. Nearby you will also find Greenwich District Hospital (0.5 miles north-east) and Greenwich Castle (close by, under half a mile south-west). For a walk, there is Creekside Discovery Centre.
Fitting day, step by step
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Any hand painting can be finished on site.
- You get in touch with a few details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- You receive a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Where other trades come in
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.
What goes into it
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Hinged or sliding doors
Flats, conversions and lettings
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Greenwich
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Maze Hill station?
Yes. We cover the whole of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Greenwich?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
It is worked out with you when we measure, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
Can you build wardrobes around a bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. It’s planned so there’s room around the bed and the room doesn’t feel enclosed.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
How long does it take to fit wardrobes?
It depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The wardrobes are built in our workshop first before we come to fit them.
Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
A finished loft conversion often leaves a new bedroom with sloping walls and no storage. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
If your home is one of the older houses near St Mary's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
What to check before you book
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
