Bedroom storage in Maze Hill
In the area around Maze Hill, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 44%) and before 1919 (about 32%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Maze Hill include Royal Observatory (Grade I), under half a mile south-west, and Royal Observatory Flamsteed House (Grade I), under half a mile south-west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 44% of homes in the streets around Maze Hill were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted furniture is fixed to suit the board.
Living in a block of flats near Maze Hill station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Queen's House, about 0.3 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. For a family home near John Roan School, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
Maze Hill is about 3 miles east of Plumstead, part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Maze Hill is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Across Greenwich, we cover Maze Hill, along with the rest of the borough.
Postcode districts we cover here for fitted wardrobes: SE10, SE3 and E14. If your home is on a street such as Webb Road, The Avenue and Hardy Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. If you are just outside Maze Hill, we also cover Greenwich (1 mile south-west), Vanbrugh Park Estate (1 mile south-east), Westcombe Park (1 mile east), Blackheath (1 mile south) and Isle of Dogs (1 mile north-west). Other parts of Greenwich we cover include Plumstead (3 miles east), Eltham (3 miles south-east), Woolwich (3 miles east), Well Hall (3 miles south-east), Coldharbour (4 miles south-east) and Charlton (2 miles east).

Fitted wardrobes in Maze Hill: what you get
Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are not enough hanging space and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall.
Many homes around Maze Hill have been built since 2000, and in newer homes, bedrooms tend to be compact, with plasterboard stud walls. Heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor, rather than relying on the board alone. Where a small built-in cupboard came with the home, it can be reworked as part of the design.
The furniture is built in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What fitted wardrobes cannot fix
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Structural changes to the room

What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- The overall size of the piece
- Parking near your home
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The internal fittings
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
What to send when you get in touch
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Examples of the look you’re after
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
How it is made
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting, whether the doors are plain or panelled.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front as you prefer. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.
Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room.
- We come to measure and talk through the design, including the doors and the finish.
- We send a quote in writing.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
How to prepare
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Maze Hill
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Maze Hill?
Yes. Maze Hill is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Greenwich and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
I live near Maze Hill station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?
Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You will get a quote in writing once we have measured up.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not usually. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
