Fitted home offices designed for your room

About our fitted home offices in Bedfont

An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a neat desk with shelves above. The desk and shelves are scribed to the alcove, as period walls are seldom flat. The other alcove can hold matching cupboards or bookshelves. It makes a working corner that suits the room, in Bedfont or anywhere else. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are shelving that bows under the load and a laptop that moves from room to room.

Post-war homes often have wide windows, which suit a desk set along the window wall. If there is a radiator below, the desk sits clear so the heat can rise. With many of the homes around Bedfont built in the post-war decades, it is a layout worth considering.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What it’s made from

Pull-out drawers

Drawers can form a pedestal under the desk. Leave knee room in the middle. The design visit settles the layout.

Hand-painted finish

Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can be matched to the room’s woodwork.

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Connecting printers and screens
  • Converting a loft to make room for an office
  • Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Bespoke fitted home offices or ready-made?

Ready-made desks rarely plan for cables. With a bespoke desk, cable routes are part of the design. It keeps things neat above and below the desk. A ready-made unit pushed back to the wall leaves a gap above the skirting, which wastes depth and gathers dust. Fitted furniture is scribed over the skirting or set on its own plinth.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bedfont?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Does a conservation area in or near Bedfont affect fitted furniture?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do you work outside London?

No. We only take on work in London, across all the boroughs and the City of London.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

Fitted home offices for homes in Bedfont

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 35% of the housing in the streets around Bedfont, with about 26% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. Part of Bedfont is in the Bedfont Green Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Hounslow included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Bedfont is covered by it. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.

Living in a block of flats near Heathrow Terminal 4 Rail station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Near listed buildings like Fawns Manor, under half a mile south of the centre of Bedfont, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your children go to Fairholme Primary School or a school nearby, closed cupboards above a desk keep work papers and school books apart.

Fitting day, step by step

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Post-war blocks often have shared stairwells and lifts, so home offices are made in sections sized for each. Let us know about any building rules on lifts or working hours at the measuring visit.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the work you do and the equipment you use.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room, agree the desk height and depth and plan cable routes to the sockets. New sockets or wiring are a job for your electrician, ideally before fitting.
  3. You receive a written quote for the office.
  4. The office furniture is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with gaps for cables planned in.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed and set level, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
