Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
Before and after fitting day
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Make sure walls are dry before units go in
- Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
- Think about long versus double hanging
- Sort through your clothes before the design visit
Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Go easy on painted surfaces at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
About our walk-in wardrobes in Bedfont
A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, so we allow for it in the design. People typically come to us about a use for a small spare room and shelves for shoes and bags; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Internal walls in post-war homes can be lightweight partitions rather than solid block, and tall furniture stands on the floor, tied back where the wall is strong enough. Because many homes around Bedfont date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, we check every wall at the design visit. Loads are planned so nothing depends on a weak wall.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished.

How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Estates sometimes have their own parking rules alongside the council’s, so it’s useful to tell us during the design visit. On the day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.
- We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
- At the design visit we measure the room and talk through hanging, shelves and drawers.
- You get a quote in writing for the design we have agreed, for you to read through.
- We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop.
- We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
Preparing the room
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
I live near Heathrow Terminal 4 Rail station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.
Does a conservation area in or near Bedfont affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is a box room big enough for a walk-in wardrobe?
Often, yes. We can line a small room with hanging, shelving and drawers and still leave room to move. We’ll measure and plan it at the design visit.
Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?
Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. The design allows air to circulate, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.
Bedfont homes and walk-in wardrobes
In the streets around Bedfont, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 35%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 26%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Bedfont is in the Bedfont Green Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Around a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Bedfont (about 35%) were built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Post-war bedrooms are typically simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall.
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a family home near Fairholme Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Fawns Manor, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

How we price walk-in wardrobes
What you pay depends on:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The number of doors and drawers
- How big the furniture is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Helping us understand the room
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, and that has real appeal. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, in a finish that suits the house. In a flat with stairs or a small lift, large flat-pack units can be hard to get in, while fitted furniture arrives in sections made to fit the route. It is then assembled in the room.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
