About our bespoke kitchens in Bedfont
A larder cupboard can hold more than a run of wall units. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, sized to what you keep in them. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts awkward space to work. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are cabinets for a narrow kitchen and open shelves with cupboards below.
Homes from the 1950s and 1960s tend to have lower ceilings than older houses, so wall cabinets can run to the ceiling and still be within reach. Because many homes around Bedfont date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, it is a simple way to gain storage without losing floor. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the finish is agreed in your quote.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Questions from Bedfont
Is Bedfont in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes, Bedfont is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hounslow and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?
No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Kitchens in Bedfont homes
About 35% of the homes in the streets around Bedfont went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 26% between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Bedfont is partly covered by the Bedfont Green Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 42% of households in the neighbourhood around Bedfont live in detached or semi-detached houses, based on Census 2021. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
For families living near Fairholme Primary School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Fawns Manor, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Bedfont is about 4 miles east of Hounslow, part of the London Borough of Hounslow. Design visits and fitting in Bedfont can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Our work takes in places right across Hounslow.

Why bespoke in Bedfont?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. In return, the storage, layout and finish are designed for you. Big ready-made pieces can be awkward to carry up communal stairs, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections sized for the way in. It is then assembled in the room.
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, use our contact form.
Why us?
- Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Workshop-made and fitted by us
- Scribed to uneven walls
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose

How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Post-war homes often have concrete or block walls, so the right fixings are part of the plan for fitting day. We protect floors and doorways as the furniture comes in, and the pieces are assembled in the room.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- You receive a written quote for the kitchen cabinets.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
Before we arrive
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
Starting with a design visit
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Advice
The problems bespoke kitchens solve
In many older homes, ready-made units struggle with lean and slope. Gaps and wavy lines are hard to hide, while scribed and levelled cabinets keep the lines true.
Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:
- A central island in a larger kitchen
- Tall larder storage
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
- Open shelves with cupboards below
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
Choosing a carpenter
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
