Window seats in Bedfont, Hounslow
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make window seats for homes in Bedfont, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A radiator under the window getting in the way
- A bay window that’s hard to furnish
- A room with shutters and sashes that deserves a proper seat

About our window seats in Bedfont
Window seats work in bedrooms and children’s rooms as well as living rooms. With deep drawers or a lift-up lid, it becomes useful storage as well as a place to sit. For children’s rooms, drawers are often easier for small hands than a heavy lid. In Bedfont, the design visit is where the details are settled. We make window seats from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window and a child’s room that needs storage and seating.
Rooms in post-war homes tend to be simple, with plain skirting and no cornice, so fitted storage can be crisp and simple to match. Around Bedfont, many homes were built between 1945 and the early 1970s. We still measure everything, as no room is perfectly square.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Where other trades come in
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- New sockets or lights near the window, which are for your electrician
- Moving or replacing a radiator, which is for your plumber
- Repairs to sash windows, cills or shutters
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a post-war house, the hall and stairs are usually straight and simple, which helps when the sections come in. The way in is still measured, along with the room. On the day, sections are joined, levelled and fixed, with floors protected throughout.
- You get in touch and describe the window.
- At the design visit we measure each side of the bay, because walls in older houses are rarely square.
- A written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we make each section of the seat from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the seat in your home, trimming the edges to meet the walls and cill, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
Arranging a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Tips worth knowing
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Choose a colour that suits the room
- Make room so the whole bay can be measured
- Consider how often you will reach for what’s stored
- Think about whether you’d like shelves either side
We open each lid and drawer with you before we go. If there is a radiator grille, we make sure the radiator is clear and the grille is in place. That way, everything works as planned.
Every so often, look at the hinges and any handles. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If a lid or drawer starts to catch, message us from the contact page and describe what’s happening.
Window seats for homes in Bedfont
About 35% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Bedfont went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 26% between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how window seats are fixed and fitted. There are 16 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Bedfont. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If you live on or close to a main road in Bedfont, let us know during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
Living in a block of flats near Heathrow Terminal 4 Rail station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary, the deep reveals of an older window can frame a seat neatly. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Fawns Manor, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

Your questions about window seats in Bedfont
Do you cover homes near Heathrow Terminal 4 Rail station?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is Bedfont in the area you cover for window seats?
Yes. Bedfont is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
How much does a window seat cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A bay with angled sides involves more work than a straight recess, and drawers more than a lid. We set it all out in a written quote.
Who chooses the colour?
The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
What affects the price in Bedfont
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- The internal fittings
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
What to send when you contact us
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Your postcode and the borough
- Examples of the look you are after
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
To get a quote, get in touch through our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
