Fitted home offices in Charlton: what you get
Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the work surface stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. For a home in Charlton, we design it all around what you need to store. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day and an awkward space with no furniture that fits.
A good home office needs light, a comfortable desk height and somewhere to put things away. For any home in Charlton, those are the first things we look at. Desk depth and shelf positions are set around how you work.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Charlton
Is parking a problem for fitting in Charlton?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Charlton station?
Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
How much does a fitted home office cost?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. It depends on how much furniture you want, the layout and the finish. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, in a converted loft room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so you can stand at the desk. Lower areas can take cupboards and shelves.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
What happens when you come to measure?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Materials and finishes
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting on site lets the office be finished alongside the woodwork around it. Marks can be touched in without much trouble. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first.
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the office. It is carried out in the workshop for an even coat. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.
How fitting works for fitted home offices
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturdays can be arranged.

Charlton homes and fitted home offices
In the neighbourhood around Charlton, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 34%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List records 16 entries within half a mile of the centre of Charlton. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. About 29% of homes in the streets around Charlton were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war rooms are typically regular in shape, so a desk and shelving can run wall to wall.
If your children go to Thorntree Primary School or a school nearby, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework. Near listed buildings like Charlton House, about 0.5 miles south of the centre of Charlton, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. If your home is one of the older houses near St Catherine Labouré, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- The number of doors and drawers
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The overall size of the piece
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.
Helping us understand the room
There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Your postcode and the borough
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
For a quote for fitted home offices in Charlton, message us from the contact page. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, plus any rough sizes. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
