Fitted home offices in Woolwich: what you get
Light matters in a home office. A screen facing a window can be hard to read, and a window behind you can cause glare. We will suggest where the desk should go to make the most of daylight without glare. We look at it early at the design visit in Woolwich. If you’re living with a corner too odd for a standard desk and cables trailing across the desk and floor, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Woolwich, and blocks often have rules about the lift and working times. Checking with the managing agent early helps the day go smoothly. If the flat is leasehold, check your lease before home offices are fixed to the walls.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Where other trades come in
Not everything around fitted home offices is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Structural work, such as removing walls or chimney breasts
- Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator
- Converting a loft to make room for an office

Fitting day, step by step
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat doesn’t fill up. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.
- First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind.
- We measure the room, look at the light and note the sockets. Cable routes are planned at this point.
- The design is agreed and a written quote follows, with the finish set out.
- The office is made at our workshop and painted in your colour.
- The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you.
How to prepare
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
Getting a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

FAQs: fitted home offices in Woolwich
Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Woolwich?
Yes, Woolwich is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Greenwich and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Woolwich?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.
Do you wire in sockets for the home office?
New sockets need an electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we have allowed for them.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
How long will the home office fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.
Could you do it yourself?
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf desks and shelving are made for flat walls and standard sizes. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. Bespoke furniture is made to the room and fits it. It costs more than flat-pack furniture, and what you get is an office that fits. Ready-made furniture stops at a set height, whatever the ceiling, which wastes the space above. Fitted furniture runs to the ceiling.
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

Fitted home offices in Woolwich: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Woolwich were built since 2000 (about 31%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 25%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Woolwich is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Greenwich included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Woolwich. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.
Close to Woolwich Common? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. If you live in a flat close to Woolwich Dockyard station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.
