Greenwich Fitted Home Offices

In Greenwich, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. We design your home office at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A desk in the wrong light
  • An alcove or landing that could take a desk
  • Flimsy shelves that will not take the weight

How we make fitted home offices for Greenwich

Cables are easy to forget and hard to hide later. Cable holes and routes are built into the desk and cupboards. If you need new sockets, they’re for your electrician, and we plan the furniture around them. Talking it through at the measuring visit in Greenwich saves trouble later. If your home has a desk buried under papers and wires with no tidy route, home offices made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

In a newer townhouse or duplex, a landing or the space under the stairs can take a compact desk. Around Greenwich, many homes were built since 2000. It suits working from home now and then, with cupboards to hide the clutter. Cable routes run to the nearest sockets.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

What we don’t do

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It’s useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • Electrical work for the office, which your electrician carries out
  • Plastering and decorating around the office
  • Changes to the structure of the house

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Built-in desks
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Cable routes
  • Filing drawers
  • Spray-painted finish

Why people ask for fitted home offices in Greenwich

Keeping work in its own space is a common wish. A desk with doors, or an office in a spare room, lets you close the door on work. It makes the house feel like home again in the evening.

Requests we hear often include:

  • Glare from a window on the screen
  • An alcove or landing that could take a desk
  • Shelves that sag under books and files
  • No way to put work away

For a flat near Maze Hill station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Will the quote be in writing?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

What it is made from

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits desks, panels and doors alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.

Doors and drawer fronts

Cupboard doors hide the clutter of working life. We make them plain or panelled, with handles to match. When you finish, the doors close on work.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Home offices are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.

  1. You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.
  2. We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
  6. Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.

Preparing the room

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in

Starting with a design visit

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Flats, leases and landlords

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it during the design visit.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the design visit.

Working from home in Greenwich

Homes built before 1919 make up about 36% of the housing in the area around Greenwich, with about 35% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Greenwich is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 51% of households in the neighbourhood around Greenwich live in purpose-built flats, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. For a flat, home offices are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If you live near Island Gardens, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. The wider area includes historic houses like Queen's House, about 0.2 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

Questions from Greenwich

My home in Greenwich is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Greenwich?

Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?

Yes, in a loft that is already converted. The desk is placed where there’s headroom to sit and stand comfortably, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. We don’t carry out loft conversions.

Can a home office double as a guest room?

Often, yes. The desk, shelving and storage can be designed to leave room for a bed, or with doors that hide the desk away. A fold-down wall bed can also be built into the design.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
