Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
Walk-in wardrobes in Charlton
A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, with hanging rails, shelving and drawers planned around what you own. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted to the room, scribed to the walls and set level. If you are living with a dressing area in part of a bedroom and somewhere for shoes to live, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Where housing is mixed, as in much of London, bedrooms can be anything from a box room to a big front room. Fitted furniture can suit each, sized and laid out for the room. Nothing is assumed to be square, so the room is measured carefully.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Walk-in wardrobes in Charlton: local notes
About 34% of the homes in the streets around Charlton went up before 1919, and about 29% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 16 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Charlton. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. We will plan where the van can stop.
For an older house near St Catherine Labouré, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. For families living near Thorntree Primary School, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Charlton House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.
Charlton is within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, about 2 miles east of Plumstead. We design and make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Charlton and across Greenwich, as part of our work in every London borough. In Greenwich, Charlton is one of the places we cover.
We cover every part of SE7 and SE18 for walk-in wardrobes. If your home is on a street like Floyd Road, Guild Road and Priolo Road, or close by, we can visit to measure up for walk-in wardrobes. We also cover New Charlton (1 mile north-west), Westcombe Park (1 mile west), Woolwich (1 mile east), Vanbrugh Park Estate (1 mile south-west) and Kidbrooke (2 miles south). We also make walk-in wardrobes in nearby places such as Plumstead (2 miles east), Greenwich (2 miles west), Eltham (3 miles south), Well Hall (2 miles south), Coldharbour (4 miles south) and New Eltham (4 miles south).

Before and after fitting day
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Keep the room ventilated
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
- Have a clear-out before we measure
Keep the room ventilated, particularly on a cooler external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes, so air can circulate.
It helps to know what you’ll keep before we measure. The amount of long hanging, double hanging, shelving and shoe storage depends on what you own, so a clear-out first gives a better design.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
Fitting day, step by step
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Before fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are

Questions from Charlton
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Charlton?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Charlton?
Yes, we work across Greenwich, Charlton included, and across the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
What we do not do
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Curing damp in the walls
- Making good walls and ceilings
- Lighting and wiring, which are for your electrician
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.
