Fitted home offices for your home in Cranford
About our fitted home offices in Cranford
A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, shaped by the way you work. For a home in Cranford, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. We make home offices from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about wires with no tidy route and a laptop that moves from room to room.
The bay window in a 1930s front room or bedroom gives good daylight for a desk, with shelving or cupboards along the walls beside it. Around Cranford, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing. A desk can follow the shape of the bay or bridge its opening.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route during the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Materials and finishes
Pull-out drawers
Drawers under a desk keep stationery and papers to hand. Deeper drawers can take files. Each one is sized for what it holds.
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF because it is stable and gives a smooth surface for paint. It is used for the doors, fronts and side panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.
What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts when you get in touch about a home office.
- At the design visit, we look at the room, the window and your equipment, and plan where the cables will run.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- We make the desk, shelves and cupboards in our workshop.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready for work.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Home working in Cranford: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Cranford were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 48%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 35%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The centre of Cranford is within about a quarter of a mile of the Cranford Park Conservation Area. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Hounslow is no exception. If your road in Cranford falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Osterley House, about 2.6 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Stansfield House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For an older house near The Parish Church of the Good Shepherd, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.
Cranford is in the London Borough of Hounslow, about 3 miles east of Hounslow. We design and make fitted home offices for homes in Cranford and across Hounslow, as part of our work in every London borough. Cranford is one of 25 places on our list for Hounslow.
In TW4, TW5 and UB3, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Our area takes in homes on streets like Ely Road, Park Lane and The Avenue, along with the roads around them, for fitted home offices and any of our other fitted furniture. If you are just outside Cranford, we also cover Hatton (1 mile south-west), Harlington (1 mile north-west), Feltham (2 miles south), Sipson (2 miles north-west) and Bedfont (2 miles south-west). Across the rest of Hounslow, our area takes in Hounslow (3 miles east), Brentford (5 miles east), Isleworth (3 miles east), Chiswick (7 miles east), Strand-on-the-Green (6 miles east) and Woodlands (3 miles east).

Not far away are Crane Meadows.
Your questions about fitted home offices in Cranford
Can you make fitted home offices for a home in Cranford?
Yes. Cranford is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Cranford?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, in a converted loft room. We plan around the headroom, so you can stand at the desk. Lower areas can take cupboards and shelves.
Which materials go into your home offices?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the desk, shelves and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we cannot advise on, so check it or ask your managing agent.
How is a home office priced?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The mix of desk, shelving, drawers and doors, and the finish, all play a part. We set it all out in a quote in writing.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. Span, depth and load all matter. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

How we price fitted home offices
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How square the room is
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
Before the design visit
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Where you live, with the postcode
- How you want to use the space
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. When you’re ready, use our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
