De Beauvoir Town Fitted Home Offices
In De Beauvoir Town, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. Your home office is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.
- A desk in the wrong light
- Flimsy shelves that will not take the weight
- Files and folders piling up

Flats, blocks and rented homes
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.
About our fitted home offices in De Beauvoir Town
Planning the cables early is what keeps a home office tidy. We design routes through the desk and units for chargers, screens and printers. If you need new sockets, they’re for your electrician, and we plan the furniture around them. Talking it through at the design visit in De Beauvoir Town saves trouble later. If you are living with shelves that sag under books and files and a corner too odd for a standard desk, that is what home offices are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A single long desk top may not fit in the lift or round the stair turn, so it can be made in sections or sized to the route. Around De Beauvoir Town, most households live in purpose-built flats. The joins are placed where they won’t catch papers or show.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

From workshop to your room
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. With little room to spare in a flat, pieces come in as they’re needed. Floors are covered and dust is kept down. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.
- First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind.
- At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
- We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
- The office is made in our workshop and painted in your colour.
- The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Getting a quote
To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Advice
FAQs: fitted home offices in De Beauvoir Town
Do you cover homes near Dalston Junction station?
Yes, homes across Hackney and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
My home in De Beauvoir Town is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Home offices are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Practical tips
People planning fitted home offices often ask about these. They help whatever the room:
- Consider your chair when planning the desk
- Note what sits on and around your desk
- Note how many files and books you need to store
- Notice where daylight falls at different times
Heavy files are best kept low or close to the supports. That keeps shelves straight over the years. The shelves are made for what you said you’d keep on them.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, drop us a line using the contact form and describe it.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A fitted office can combine a desk, shelving and cupboards in one design. Ready-made pieces bought separately rarely line up. A single design gives the room clean, consistent lines. In a flat, walls are often broken up by radiators, doors and sockets, so off-the-shelf widths rarely fill the gaps. Fitted furniture is made for the spaces that are left.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
