For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of De Beauvoir Town, Historic England’s list includes St Paul's Church (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west, and Church of St Mark (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles north-east. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Purpose-built flats are home to about 58% of households in the neighbourhood around De Beauvoir Town, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 1.3 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. For a family home near Our Lady and St Joseph Catholic Primary School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. If you live near Shoreditch Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Loft storage in De Beauvoir Town: what you get
The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Cupboards and drawers set into the knee wall make that space useful. Pull-out drawers mean you do not have to crawl in. At the design visit in De Beauvoir Town, we will see what fits. If your home has boxes and suitcases with no home and an empty dormer that could hold shelves, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
In a block, the lift, the corridors and the door to the flat set the size of each section. Most households around De Beauvoir Town live in purpose-built flats, so the sections for eaves cupboards are planned during the design visit. Floors in the corridor and the flat are covered on the way in.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What affects the price in De Beauvoir Town
The price for your room depends on:
- The overall size of the piece
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
How it is made
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. It goes into the carcasses, the drawers and the shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
Pull-out drawers
Drawers along the knee wall make a neat, low run of storage. The top can be a surface for books or lamps. We agree the layout at the design visit.
How fitting works for loft storage
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.

Is bespoke worth it?
A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece cannot. Which suits you depends on your plans. Whether the ceilings are tall or low, standard heights rarely match them, so storage is lost at the top. Fitted furniture runs to the ceiling.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

FAQs: loft storage in De Beauvoir Town
How do you fit loft storage in a flat in De Beauvoir Town?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It is cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
When is bespoke worth it?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
