Fitted home offices designed for your room
How we make fitted home offices for Leamouth
A spare room often makes the best home office, particularly if it still needs to work as a guest room. The office can be planned to leave space for a bed or a sofa, or doors that close over the desk at the end of the day. It’s worth talking through at the measuring visit in Leamouth. If your home has a desk in the wrong light and an awkward space with no furniture that fits, that’s what home offices are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A large number of homes around Leamouth date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer developments. Newer homes often have sockets in useful places, so home offices can be planned around them. New wiring is a job for your electrician.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

What happens on fitting day
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so it helps to sort them out in advance. Home offices are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.
- You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.

- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Caring for painted furniture
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Note what sits on and around your desk
- Think about what you’d like on show
- Choose a calm colour for a working room
- Note the position of sockets in the room
Heavy files are best kept low or close to the supports. It helps shelves stay straight. We size them for what you told us you’d store.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If a door drops or a drawer catches, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us.

Flats, leases and landlords
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising during the design visit.
Questions we’re often asked
I live in a flat in Leamouth. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Home offices are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
I live near Custom House station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can you add power points to the desk?
That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Can you build a home office in an alcove?
In many homes, yes. An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a desk with shelves above. It is scribed to the alcove walls so it fits closely. At the design visit we’ll measure and tell you what fits.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Home working in Leamouth: local notes
About 81% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Leamouth went up since 2000, and about 8% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Leamouth, Historic England’s list includes Trinity House Chain Locker and Lighthouse Block (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and Church of St Luke (Grade II), less than half a mile east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Tower Hamlets included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Leamouth. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.
For a family home near St Luke's Primary School, a built-in desk can be shared between home working and homework. If you live near Bow Creek Ecology Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight.

Why people ask for fitted home offices in Leamouth
Cables and chargers are a common frustration. Planned routes through the desk keep cables out of sight. New sockets are for your electrician, and the furniture is planned to suit.
We’re often asked to help with:
- A desk in the wrong light
- Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
- An tricky space with no furniture that fits
- No proper place to work from home
For an older house near Church of St Luke, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.
Choosing a carpenter
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
How it is made
Shelves
We can make fixed shelves, adjustable ones, or a mix. Fixed shelves add stiffness to tall units, and adjustable shelves leave room to change.
Birch plywood
A home office shelf often carries heavy books and folders. Birch plywood suits them, as it is strong and stiff. Long spans need a thicker shelf, a lip or a support.
