Fitted home offices designed for your room
Fitted home offices in Surbiton Park
A good home office has a place for everything. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the desk stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. For a home in Surbiton Park, we design it all around what you need to store. Most enquiries start with working at the kitchen table and a tangle of chargers and leads; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Paperwork, printers and chargers are what make a desk look untidy, so cupboards with cable routes built in keep them hidden. For a home in Surbiton Park, the design can include a printer cupboard and file drawers. Cables run to your existing sockets.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Honest limits
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Installing IT equipment or broadband
- Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator
- Building a loft conversion, which isn’t our work
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

- Birch plywood
- Built-in desks
- Cable routes
- Spray-painted finish

From workshop to your room
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You tell us how you work and where you’d like the office, whether that’s a spare room, an alcove or a landing.
- At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
- We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote.
- The office is made at our workshop and painted in your colour. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.
Before we arrive
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
Arranging a design visit
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, use our contact form.

Home working in Surbiton Park: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Surbiton Park were built before 1919 (about 33%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 20%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. The centre of Surbiton Park is within about a quarter of a mile of the Cadogan Road Conservation Area. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 45% of households in the neighbourhood around Surbiton Park live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
Close to Hampton Court Park? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. Hampton Court Palace, about 1.4 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Materials and finishes
Pull-out drawers
Desk drawers keep the things you use every day close by. A deep drawer can hold hanging files. Each one is sized for what it holds.
Shelves
Office shelving often carries heavy loads. How far a shelf spans and what it holds both count. We size each shelf to carry its load without sagging.
The problems fitted home offices solve
People also want an office that looks good on video calls. Built-in shelves and doors give a tidy backdrop. It’s a practical benefit many people mention.
Fitted home offices can help with:
- A screen that’s hard to read by the window
- Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
- A guest room that’s needed for work
- A tangle of chargers and leads
Living in a block of flats near Surbiton station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
Your questions about fitted home offices in Surbiton Park
How do you fit fitted home offices in a flat in Surbiton Park?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Surbiton Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
How is a home office priced?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The size of the room, the amount of desk, shelving and storage, and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
How long does it take to fit a home office?
The time the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Every part is built in our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
When is bespoke worth it?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
