Temple Fitted Home Offices
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted home offices in Temple starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- Files and folders piling up
- A guest room that is needed for work
- A corner too odd for a standard desk
Fitted home offices for your home in Temple
Fitted home offices in Temple
The desk is the heart of a home office. It’s made at a height and depth to suit you and the way you work, with storage below where it helps. Shelving and cupboards can then be built around it. The design visit in Temple is where these choices are made. We make home offices from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are files and folders piling up and working at the kitchen table.
In an older house, sockets may be few and in tricky places, so we plan cable routes to the sockets you have. Any new sockets are for your electrician, ideally before fitting day. With a large share of the homes around Temple built before 1919, it’s worth thinking about early.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

What we do not do
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator
- Setting up computers, screens or networks
- Turning an unconverted loft into a room
Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll tell you. How it works.

Home working in Temple: local notes
About 48% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Temple went up before 1919, and about 22% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Temple, 32 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In inner London, a large part of the street parking sits inside borough-run controlled parking zones. So a van fitting furniture in Temple usually needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension arranged through the council. Parking is worth mentioning at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
For a flat near London Blackfriars station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Middle Temple Hall, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Close to Garden Bridge? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day.
Temple is about 1 mile east of City of London, part of the City of London. Whether your home in Temple is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Temple is one of the places in the City of London where we make fitted home offices, and the borough has 8 places on our list.
Design visits and fitting in SE1, WC2H and WC2B work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We cover homes on streets such as Shoe Lane, Drury Lane and New Square, along with the roads around them, for fitted home offices and any of our other fitted furniture. Temple sits close to the A4 and A40. Other places close to Temple include Temple Bar (1 mile north), Blackfriars (1 mile east), Aldwych (1 mile west), Clare Market (1 mile north-west) and Covent Garden (1 mile west).

Temple has its own railway station: London Blackfriars station. Well-known places in the area include St Philip's Hospital (less than half a mile north-west) and Twinings Museum (a few minutes’ walk north-west). Open spaces near Temple include St. James's Park Lake and Ludgate Hill.
Caring for painted furniture
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. These habits help most:
- Think about where the sockets are now
- Consider doors to hide work at the end of the day
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
Load shelves evenly, with heavier books and files at the ends near the supports. It helps shelves stay straight. We size them for what you told us you’d store.
Hot mugs can mark paint, so a coaster is a good habit. Mop up spills quickly. A mat protects the area you use most.
FAQs: fitted home offices in Temple
Do you cover homes near London Blackfriars station?
Yes. We cover all of the City of London and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Temple?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit. The whole City of London is also inside the Congestion Charge zone, and the ULEZ covers every London borough.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
How long does it take to fit a home office?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The office is made in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the room as clear as we can.
Do you wire in sockets for the home office?
That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.
How we price fitted home offices
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How square the room is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How big the furniture is
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Getting in touch
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Approximate measurements of the space
Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
- We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
- Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.

What else we make in Temple
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Off-the-shelf desks and shelving are made for flat walls and standard sizes. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. Bespoke furniture is made to the room and fits it. It’s a bigger investment, and the gain is a workspace that uses the room well. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it cannot tip, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.
Why choose us
- Scribed to uneven walls
- Over 300 projects completed
- Every quote follows a design visit
