Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
From workshop to your room
At the end, we tidy up. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and some buildings set hours for noisy work. We plan the day to suit those rules. Saturday work is by prior arrangement where the building permits it.

Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF cuts cleanly, which suits panelled doors and the angled parts of a desk under a slope. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. Most of what you see is MDF.
Is bespoke worth it?
Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. Span, depth and load all matter. We size the shelves for what they’ll carry, using birch plywood where strength is needed. Large ready-made pieces can be hard to get up the stairs or into the lift, while fitted furniture arrives in sections sized for the route. It’s then put together in the room.
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.
