How we make fitted wardrobes for WC2B
The inside matters as much as the doors. We plan the mix of long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers around your clothes, so nothing is squashed and no height is wasted. It’s useful to think about what you wear most before we meet. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are not enough hanging space and clothes with nowhere proper to go.
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You get in touch with a few details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too. Let us know about parking as well, as a van normally needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
What affects the price in WC2B
We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we will arrange a design visit.

Fitted wardrobes across WC2B: local notes
Bedrooms across WC2B might have alcoves, sloping ceilings, bulkheads or none of these. Fitted wardrobes are scribed to the walls and levelled on site. The paint finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.
The biggest shares of homes in WC2B were built before 1919 (about 48%) and since 2000 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. More than a third of the homes in WC2B (about 48%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Older bedrooms usually have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use, scribed to walls that are not straight. Purpose-built flats are home to about 76% of households in WC2B, based on Census 2021. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, WC2B included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.
Temple Bar: Dr Johnson's House, about 0.2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly and leaves no brush marks. You choose the colour before we start.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It suits bedrooms where the wardrobe sits on an external wall.
Flats, leases and landlords
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
Looking after your furniture
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
- Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Empty the area where we’ll be working
Hang clothes evenly along each rail. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support.
Keep any ventilation gaps clear, particularly where the wardrobe meets an outside wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and deal with any damp early.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
An tricky room is another reason. A sloping ceiling, a chimney breast, a low window or a door in the wrong place can defeat standard furniture. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
Requests we hear often include:
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
- No space in front for doors to swing
- Not enough hanging space
Honest limits
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:
- Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
- Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in WC2B
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then fitted in your home. It’s built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
It’s worked out with you when we measure, starting from the clothes you have. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can you build wardrobes around a bed?
Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused. We measure the bed and the room at the design visit.
Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?
Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
It’s common, and it’s allowed for. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.
