Loft storage in Bermondsey, Southwark

Thinking about loft storage in Bermondsey? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a written quote, before anything is made.

  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised

About our loft storage in Bermondsey

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Bermondsey, the design visit is the first step. If you’re living with a loft room that still feels unfinished and a boarded loft with no proper shelving, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Most households around Bermondsey live in purpose-built flats, so storage has to be found in the hallway, the recesses and any bay. Each piece is built in sections sized for the route into the flat. Boilers and fuse boards in a hall cupboard keep the access and ventilation they need.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Fitted storage in Bermondsey

Homes built since 2000 make up about 33% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bermondsey, with about 23% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. The Bermondsey Street Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Bermondsey. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Purpose-built flats are home to about 79% of households in the area around Bermondsey, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If you live in a period home close to St Mary Magdalen Bermondsey, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. If you live near Bermondsey Spa Gardens, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For a family home near Boutcher Church of England Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Is bespoke worth it?

With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it can match the walls and the woodwork. In a flat, walls are often broken up by radiators, doors and sockets, and standard widths rarely fit between them. Built-in pieces are sized for each stretch of wall.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.

Why choose us

  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • We visit, measure and discuss the design before we quote
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • A spray or hand-painted finish

Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made and what to look for in a quote.

What we don’t do

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Questions from Bermondsey

Is Bermondsey in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes, we work across Southwark, Bermondsey included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bermondsey?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough measurements. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the space. We plan it at the design visit.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.

What happens on fitting day

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so it is worth checking with the managing agent ahead of time. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.

  1. It starts with some details from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Advice

Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.
