Need loft storage in Peckham?
Before and after fitting day
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
- Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Note the things that need a home in the loft
Do not pack things so tightly that air cannot move behind the knee wall. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps keep the loft in good order.
Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. A little ventilation helps. It helps the storage stay in good condition.
Loft storage for homes in Peckham
We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. We don’t carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Peckham, the design visit is the first step. If you’re living with boxes and suitcases with no home and a loft room that still feels unfinished, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Older rooms often suit panelled doors, newer rooms plainer ones. For a home in Peckham, door styles are talked through during the design visit. You choose the colour, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, leases and landlords
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.
Where other trades come in
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
- Converting the loft itself, which is not our work

FAQs: loft storage in Peckham
Is parking a problem for fitting in Peckham?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
I live in a flat in Peckham. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not usually. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Should I send photos?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Which materials go into your loft storage?
The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.

How it is made
Plinths and scribe strips
We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They help the storage look as though it was always there. At floor level, the plinth hides any slope in the floor.
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting suits angled panels and plain fronts alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.
How fitting day works
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It helps to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
- We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
- We send a written quote.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit.
Before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Arranging a design visit
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Peckham homes and loft storage
About 39% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Peckham went up before 1919, and about 21% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The Rye Lane Peckham Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Peckham. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. About 51% of households in the area around Peckham live in purpose-built flats, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
If your children go to John Donne Primary School or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. For a flat near Queens Road Peckham station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For an older house near All Saints Church, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.
