Our fitted wardrobes across SE16

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. Typical reasons to get in touch are condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and clothes with nowhere proper to go; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

  1. You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design, including the doors and the finish.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

How our quotes work

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

Why householders in SE16 choose us

  • Every quote follows a design visit

Ask for a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Bedroom storage across SE16

SE16 has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. Fitted wardrobes are drawn up to suit the room you actually have, with the inside laid out around what you keep.

In SE16, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 42%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 27%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. More than a third of the homes in SE16 (about 42%) were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs. Purpose-built flats are home to about 80% of households in the SE16 postcode district, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, SE16 included. Every job starts the same way, with a design visit to measure and talk through the design.

Rotherhithe: Living in a block of flats near Canada Water station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mary Rotherhithe, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

How we price fitted wardrobes

There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Parking near your home

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit.

Before the design visit

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

What we do not do

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front, depending on the look you prefer. Inside drawers keep the front simple.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish suits wardrobes in a period room. You choose the colour, and touch-ups are simple.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own.

What to check before you book

  • How parking will work on your street
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?

Flats, conversions and lettings

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in SE16

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you cover areas outside London?

No. We work in London and nowhere else.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

It depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The wardrobes are made in our workshop first.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.

How do I get started?

Simply get in touch through our contact form. Rough measurements and a few pictures help, and we will arrange a design visit.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe, which helps avoid condensation.
