Loft storage in Surrey Quays
Flats, leases and landlords
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it during the design visit.
Loft storage for homes in Surrey Quays
Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. We measure the route as well as the room, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It’s part of the job for any loft room in Surrey Quays. Most enquiries start with space under the eaves going to waste and furniture that can’t get up to the loft; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
A large share of the homes around Surrey Quays date from 2000 onwards, and in a newer house with a converted loft, the eaves and slopes are worth using. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Wherever they go, eaves cupboards are fixed to suit the wall.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What affects the price in Surrey Quays
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How square the room is
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What to send when you contact us
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- How you want to use the space
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Your postcode and the borough
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Ready-made wardrobes and cupboards are built for standard rooms. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece can’t reach. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, whereas fitted pieces painted to suit the walls sit back into the space.
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Questions we are often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in Surrey Quays?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Can you make loft storage for a home in Surrey Quays?
Yes, we work across Southwark, Surrey Quays included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them, get in touch through our contact form.
How long will the loft storage fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The storage is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No. We do not carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Materials and finishes
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribe strips are trimmed to follow the wall and the slope. They help the storage look as though it was always there. The plinth does the same job at the floor.
Spray-painted finish
For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. We apply it in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.
How fitting day works
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber, ideally before fitting day.
- You get in touch with a few details about the loft room, whether it’s a converted room or a boarded space.
- We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use, with the doors and drawers checked with you.
Before we arrive
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
