Loft storage for homes in Cowley

Homes built since 2000 make up about 29% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Cowley, with about 26% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Cowley, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Laurence (Grade II*), under half a mile east, and Maygood's Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. All of London, Hillingdon included, is inside the ULEZ. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Cowley. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.

For a family home near Cowley St Laurence CofE Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. For a flat near West Drayton station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Ickenham Hall, about 2.9 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

Cowley is about 5 miles north-east of Ruislip, part of the London Borough of Hillingdon. Cowley is part of the area we cover. Our Hillingdon coverage includes Cowley, along with the rest of the borough.

Here we cover the UB8, UB7 and UB10 postcode area for loft storage. Whether you live on a street like Iver Lane, High Road and The Avenue or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for loft storage. We also cover Yiewsley (1 mile south-east), Hillingdon (2 miles north-east) and West Drayton (2 miles south). Elsewhere in Hillingdon, we also cover Ruislip (5 miles north-east), Hayes (3 miles east), Yeading (4 miles east), Yiewsley (4 miles east), Ruislip Manor (4 miles north-east) and South Ruislip (4 miles north-east).

How we make loft storage for Cowley

We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. We don’t carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Cowley, the design visit is the first step. If you’re living with ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs and a dormer that isn’t being used, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Some homes have eaves, some have bays and some have neither, but most have a recess, a landing or a corner that could take storage. Whatever kind of home yours is in Cowley, we start by looking at what’s there. Eaves cupboards are then made in our workshop and fitted on site.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Honest limits

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Any work on the structure of the house
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

Tips worth knowing

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They help whatever the room:

  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
  • Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom

Wiping the fronts with a soft, damp cloth is normally all they need. Dry them afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. Handles and drawer edges pick up marks first.

Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. A little ventilation helps. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Questions from Cowley

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Cowley?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

My home in Cowley is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Eaves cupboards are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The storage is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.

Is bespoke worth it?

Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece can’t. Which suits you depends on your plans. Standard units come with shelves and rails where the maker put them, rather than where you need them. With fitted furniture, the inside is planned around what you keep.

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Why choose us

  • A design visit, then a quote in writing
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Over 300 projects completed
  • Scribed to uneven walls

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check during the design visit.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

How fitting day works

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. Either way, the day is planned during the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. First you let us know about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
  2. We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and talk through the design, including the headroom under the slope.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
  4. The cupboards and drawers are made at our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
