Tips worth knowing

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents
  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
  • Check the route up to the loft
  • Think about how you will reach into the eaves

When you load the drawers and cupboards, put heavy things low. It helps the runners and keeps the storage working well. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.

Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. A little ventilation helps. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Loft storage in South Ruislip

The space behind the knee wall normally has insulation and ventilation to think about. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft. When we visit in South Ruislip, we will see what’s there. If your home has wasted space behind the knee walls and boxes piled on loft boards, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

In a family house, the hall and stairs typically carry the most clutter. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around South Ruislip, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Do you need loft storage in South Ruislip?

Some people have a boarded loft and want proper shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It’s ideal for things you need now and then.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
  • Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs
  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes

If you live near Northala Fields, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Storage in South Ruislip homes: local notes

In the neighbourhood around South Ruislip, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 42%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around South Ruislip (about 42%) were built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Where a post-war house has had its loft converted, the eaves and slopes can take fitted storage; we build once the loft is converted or boarded. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 50% of households in the area around South Ruislip, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

The wider area includes historic houses like Northolt Manor, about 1.4 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. For a flat near South Ruislip station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

What we do not do

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:

  • Building work to turn a loft into a room
  • Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists
  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf pieces come in the maker’s finishes. We paint the storage in the colour you choose, so it sits with the rest of the room. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

What you get with us

Your questions about loft storage in South Ruislip

Do you cover homes near South Ruislip station?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room.

Can you make loft storage for a home in South Ruislip?

Yes, we work across Hillingdon, South Ruislip included, and across the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

How is loft storage priced?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

From workshop to your room

You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You tell us about your converted or boarded loft.
  2. We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
  3. The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

Ask for a quote

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.
