Need TV and media units in Chelsfield?
The problems TV and media units solve
Games, controllers and remotes need a home. Drawers and cupboards hold them out of sight, and open shelves hold what’s used every day.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Somewhere to keep games tidy
- Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
- Wasted space around the screen
Close to Hewitt's Chalk Bank? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.
Choosing a carpenter
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
TV and media units in Chelsfield: what you get
Built-in TV and media units bring the screen, set-top boxes, speakers and cables together in one piece of furniture. Instead of a stand, a tangle of wires and a few odd shelves, the whole wall is designed at once. For a living room in Chelsfield, the first step is a design visit to measure up and look at your equipment. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are equipment running hot in a closed cupboard and nowhere good for speakers.
Many houses from between the wars, and many semis, have been extended or opened up inside, which matters around Chelsfield, where homes like these are a big part of the housing. A long through room gives TV and media units a whole wall to work with, or mark out the sitting end from the dining end. An extension’s plasterboard walls need different fixings from the original brick or block.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Practical tips
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
- Think about whether you want the screen on a bracket or on a shelf
- Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
- Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
After setting up, check that the boxes are not getting too warm. Do not block the gaps and openings left for air with cables or clutter.
Heavy equipment is best kept low, and no single shelf overloaded.
Why bespoke in Chelsfield?
Bought units often have a single cable gap, but cables normally still show somewhere. We plan the cable routes into the design. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, which shows up against standard furniture. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Your questions about TV and media units in Chelsfield
Do you make TV and media units for homes in Chelsfield?
Yes, Chelsfield is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chelsfield station?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.
What if I buy a larger TV?
The space can be sized for a larger TV, if you expect to upgrade. Tell us the size you might move to during the design visit.
How do you hide the TV cables?
That is the aim, and it’s planned from the start. Access panels make future changes easy without taking the unit apart. For a wall-mounted TV, a route behind the screen is planned in.

Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before we arrive
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
