Why bespoke in Bromley?
Bought units often have a single cable gap, but cables typically still show somewhere. A built-in unit has routes planned through it, with access left for later changes. Walls and floors are seldom perfectly flat in any home, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

TV and media units in Bromley
A built-in TV wall often needs sockets in new places, such as behind the screen or in the equipment cupboard. That job is for your electrician, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. Ideally it’s done before the unit goes in. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are leads that show from every angle and boxes and consoles on the floor.
Some living rooms in London have tall ceilings and cornices, while others have low, plain ceilings. In Bromley, as anywhere, we measure the height as carefully as the width, because it decides how tall TV and media units can go. Each section is sized to fit the route into the room.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

What affects the price in Bromley
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- How square the room is
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Doors and drawers, and how many
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What to send when you contact us
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
To get a quote for TV and media units in Bromley, send us a few details through our contact form. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, with sizes if you have them. We will arrange a design visit, then send a quote in writing.
FAQs: TV and media units in Bromley
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
My home in Bromley is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. TV and media units are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?
We plan ventilation into the unit for boxes, consoles and amplifiers. Each box should have its own space, and it’s worth checking the maker’s guidance on clearances.
Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?
We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind so the unit suits your next set. Tell us the size you might move to at the design visit.
Will the cables be hidden?
Cable routes are built into the design, with openings and access panels. Where cables reach the wall depends on the sockets.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the measuring visit.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Fitting day, step by step
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift as well as the room, so TV and media units arrive in sections that fit through. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish, for you to look over.
- We build the unit in our workshop, with routes and ventilation planned in.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and ready for your equipment. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Preparing the room
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Empty the space we will be working in
Starting with a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
What prompts TV and media units in Bromley
Boxes, consoles and routers on the floor are a familiar sight. A media unit gives each box its own ventilated space.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
- A big screen that dominates the wall
- Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
Bromley Palace, about 0.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.
Before you choose who makes it
- How parking will work on your street
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- How they handle walls that are not straight
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
Built-in living-room furniture in Bromley
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Bromley were built before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Within a mile of the centre of Bromley, 6 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in the rest of London are set locally. Depending on your street in Bromley, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the measuring visit.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Peter and St Paul, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Peter and St Paul, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.
