Broad Green TV and Media Units
In Broad Green, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. We design your TV unit at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Equipment with nowhere proper to go
- Nowhere good for speakers
- A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall

How it is made
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wide panels around a screen need to stay flat. MDF gives a smooth surface for a painted finish.
Shelves
Long shelves need the right thickness or a support to carry heavy equipment.
TV and media units in Broad Green
In many period living rooms, the chimney breast and its two alcoves shape the whole wall. Cupboards and shelves in the alcoves can hold the boxes, speakers and books. Any chimney vent is kept clear. Most enquiries start with a cabinet that traps heat and wasted space around the screen; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
You might live in a Victorian terrace, a 1930s semi, a mansion block or a recent flat, and a home in Broad Green could be any of these. Each brings different walls and floors, so the design of TV and media units starts with a look at what you have. A period house may need scribing to bowed walls, while a newer flat may need fixings for plasterboard.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What happens on fitting day
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we will have talked about during the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Whatever the age of your home, the furniture is fitted to the walls you have, scribed where walls bow and levelled where floors slope. Spray-painted pieces arrive finished; hand-painted ones can be finished on site.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish.
- We build the unit in our workshop, with routes and ventilation planned in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear.
How to prepare
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Ask for a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, use our contact form.
Advice
TV and media units in Broad Green: local notes
About 38% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Broad Green went up before 1919, and about 22% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Broad Green, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Saviour, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Living in a block of flats near West Croydon station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For families living near Elmwood Infant School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.

Pricing TV and media units in Broad Green
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- The internal fittings
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It is useful to talk about parking at the design visit.
Getting in touch
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Examples of the look you are after
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and let us know which room you have in mind. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Why bespoke in Broad Green?
Screen sizes change, and a stand chosen for today’s set may not suit the next. We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind if you expect to upgrade. Standard units come with shelves and rails where the maker put them, rather than where you need them. Fitted furniture is laid out inside around your things.
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

Questions we are often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in Broad Green?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Broad Green?
Yes. Broad Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Croydon and London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.
Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket and the cable route behind it. The bracket needs a sound wall so we check the wall at the design visit.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.
Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?
We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. It is useful to know the size you are thinking of so the space and cable routes suit it.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the measuring visit.
