Selhurst TV and Media Units
Planning TV and media units for a home in Selhurst? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.
- Wasted space around the screen
- A screen at the wrong height
- Nowhere good for speakers
Need TV and media units in Selhurst?
Why bespoke in Selhurst?
Some closed off-the-shelf cabinets have little ventilation. Ventilation is designed in where equipment sits. Recesses, sloping ceilings and tricky corners are where ready-made furniture struggles most, and most homes have at least one. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit.

TV and media units in Selhurst
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit. We make TV and media units from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a tangle of wires behind the TV and bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room.
Whether your home in Selhurst is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, TV and media units start with the room you actually have. Older rooms bring uneven walls and picture rails, while newer ones bring plasterboard walls and boxed-in pipes. Each is measured, and the pieces are made to fit it.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Do you need TV and media units in Selhurst?
Open-plan living is another reason. Built-in furniture makes that wall look planned.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
- Bought furniture that does not suit the room
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
- A big screen that dominates the wall
Near listed buildings like Stanley Technical High School and Stanley Halls, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of Selhurst, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.
Choosing a carpenter
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
Honest limits
It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Connecting and setting up your equipment
- New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
- Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast

Questions we’re often asked
Is Selhurst in the area you cover for TV and media units?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London, and Selhurst is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Selhurst?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?
Ventilation is designed in wherever equipment sits, with open backs, gaps or openings. We give each box its own space.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- At the design visit, we measure the wall and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish, for you to look over.
- The unit is made in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and ready for your equipment. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
How to get a quote
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Living-room storage in Selhurst
About 41% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Selhurst went up before 1919, and about 17% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List records 6 entries within half a mile of the centre of Selhurst. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. Where a home in Selhurst is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
The wider area includes historic houses like Kingswood House, about 2.2 miles north. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. For an older house near Church of St Mark, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

Pricing TV and media units in Selhurst
What you pay depends on:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.
Before the design visit
When you contact us, these help most:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a quote in writing follows.
