Hanworth homes and TV and media units
About 35% of the homes in the area around Hanworth went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 31% between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The centre of Hanworth is within about a quarter of a mile of the Hanworth Road Conservation Area. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Fewer homes around Hanworth date from before 1919 than across Richmond upon Thames: about 5%, against about 38%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We check what the walls are made of at the design visit, as they vary with the age of the home.

About our TV and media units in Hanworth
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes and the cable route behind it. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit. If your home has cables trailing across the wall and nowhere good for speakers, that is what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Post-war blocks of flats often have concrete floors, ceilings and some concrete walls, and they need the right drill and fixings. With many homes around Hanworth dating from the post-war decades, the walls are checked at the measuring visit before the design of TV and media units is settled. Where a wall is a lightweight partition, heavy pieces stand on the floor and are fixed back for stability.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Do you need TV and media units in Hanworth?
Open-plan living is another reason. A built-in unit gives that wall order and holds books and everyday things as well.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Equipment with nowhere proper to go
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
- Clutter around the TV
- Cables trailing across the wall
Close to Crane Park? TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear.
What to check before you book
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
How it is made
Shelves
Long shelves need the right thickness or a support.
Hand-painted finish
With hand painting, you judge the colour in your own room. Scribed edges are painted along with the rest.
Honest limits
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
- Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast
Not sure whether your space suits TV and media units? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitting day, step by step
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Fixing into concrete takes a heavy-duty drill and makes some noise, so if neighbours are close, a note before fitting day can help. Fitting day is planned around any building rules on noisy work. We tidy as we go.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit.
Before we arrive
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Ask for a quote
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Practical tips
These points come up often when people plan TV and media units. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
- Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
- Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting
- List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
Use the access panels and cable routes when you add or change leads instead of making new ones. It keeps everything neat.
Label cables when you set things up to make future changes easier.
