TV and media units in Norwood Green
Could you do it yourself?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
TV and media units for homes in Norwood Green
Sockets often need to move for a built-in TV wall. That job is for your electrician. It’s best done before we fit. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are boxes with no ventilation and clutter around the TV.
A house from between the wars typically has lower ceilings than a Victorian one, so TV and media units are proportioned to the room rather than copied from a taller one. Where your home is one of the interwar houses or semis that are a big part of the housing around Norwood Green, the cornice may be plain or missing, so the furniture can run straight to the ceiling. Any skirting is cut around neatly.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it’s worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and plan cable routes and ventilation, as set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers need air.
- A written quote follows for the unit.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.

Getting a quote
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.

Flats, leases and landlords
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Do you need TV and media units in Norwood Green?
Some want the TV to sit better in a period room. A built-in unit around the chimney breast lets it sit more quietly, rather than the focus of it.
People normally get in touch with us about things like these:
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
- Equipment with nowhere proper to go
- Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
- Nowhere good for speakers
If your children go to St Mary's Church of England Primary Norwood Green or a school nearby, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.
What to check before you book
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
Questions from Norwood Green
Do you make TV and media units for homes in Norwood Green?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Norwood Green is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Norwood Green?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
How long will the fitting take?
The fitting depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
Do TV units need ventilation?
We plan ventilation into the unit for boxes, consoles and amplifiers. Each box should have its own space.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
What it’s made from
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting is done in the workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. It is easy to touch up later.
