Living-room storage in Lampton
In the neighbourhood around Lampton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 31%) and the years since 2000 (about 27%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Lampton include Hounslow Congregational Church (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south, and Osterley Mansions (Grade II), about 0.6 miles east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. A quarter or more of the homes in the area around Lampton (about 27%) were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. In homes built since 2000, living rooms are often open-plan with stud walls, so the fixings go into the studs, or heavier pieces stand on the floor.
Living in a block of flats near Hounslow station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live in a period home close to St Luke, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

About our TV and media units in Lampton
Sockets often need to move for a built-in TV wall. That job is for your electrician. Ideally it’s done before the unit goes in, and we can tell you where the unit will sit. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are games, controllers and remotes everywhere and a screen at the wrong height.
Around Lampton, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the front room may have a bay window at one end and a chimney breast on the side wall, which decides where TV and media units sit. Walls in houses of that age are typically straighter than in Victorian ones, though they’re still checked and scribed where needed.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Practical tips
People planning TV and media units often ask about these. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
- Note the size of each box and speaker
- Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
- Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
After setting up, check that the boxes aren’t getting too warm. Don’t block the gaps and openings left for air with cables or clutter.
Label cables when you set things up to make future changes easier.
The problems TV and media units solve
The most common reason is a mess of wires. Leads trail from the TV to the boxes, the sockets and the speakers, and no stand ever quite hides them. A built-in unit gives them a planned route.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
- Standard units leaving gaps
- Wasted space around the screen
- A cabinet that traps heat
If your children go to Alexandra Primary School or a school nearby, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- A written quote that sets out the job
Your questions about TV and media units in Lampton
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hounslow station?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do you make TV and media units for homes in Lampton?
Yes. Lampton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
We plan the route in at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
How do I get a quote for TV and media units in Lampton?
Just message us from the contact page. It helps to send rough sizes and a few pictures, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.
Who moves the sockets for a built-in TV wall?
Electrical work is not something we do. Sockets and wiring are for your electrician. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.
What TV and media units can’t fix
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
- Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast

What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit, and where the sockets are now.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish, for you to look over.
- The unit is built in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and ready for your equipment. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Before we arrive
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Starting with a design visit

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
