About our TV and media units in Spring Grove
Media equipment warms up as it runs, so sealing equipment in a cupboard is not a good idea. Ventilation is planned into the design. Equipment makers often say how much space their boxes need around them. If you’re living with wasted space around the screen and set-top boxes stacked on a stand, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Ceilings in interwar houses tend to be lower than in Victorian ones, and the proportions of TV and media units are set to match. Where your home is one of the interwar houses or semis that are a big part of the housing around Spring Grove, the cornice may be plain or missing, so the furniture can run straight to the ceiling. The skirting is scribed around neatly.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

More for homes in Spring Grove
Is it time for TV and media units?
Some want the TV to sit better in a period room. Building it into the alcoves or around the chimney breast makes it part of the room.
Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:
- Nowhere good for speakers
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
- A screen at the wrong height
- Somewhere to keep games tidy
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Summer House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Common questions about TV and media units
Is parking a problem for fitting in Spring Grove?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do you cover homes near Isleworth station?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can a TV unit hold speakers?
We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closed doors muffle sound.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?
The space can be sized for a larger TV so the unit suits your next set. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Fitting day, step by step
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are normally straightforward, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it’s going, with floors protected throughout.
- You get in touch and list what the unit has to take: the screen, boxes, consoles and speakers.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and plan cable routes and ventilation, as set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers need air. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable openings and vents cut in.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.
Before fitting day
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Starting with a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Looking after your furniture
Getting the most from TV and media units starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
- Check where the seating will go
- Check each box’s guidance on ventilation and clearances
- Note the size of each box and speaker
Vents and equipment shelves gather dust, so a quick clean now and then helps. It keeps air moving.
Keep ventilation gaps and open backs clear.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
