TV and media units for homes in Rosehill

Media equipment warms up as it runs, so sealing equipment in a cupboard is not a good idea. Ventilation is planned into the design, using open backs, gaps or openings where equipment sits. Equipment makers often say how much space their boxes need around them. We make TV and media units from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about leads that show from every angle and equipment running hot in a closed cupboard.

Around Rosehill, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the front room may have a bay window at one end and a chimney breast on the side wall, and that layout shapes where TV and media units work best. Walls in houses of that age are typically straighter than in Victorian ones, though they’re still checked and scribed where needed.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the unit you have in mind, including the size of the screen.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it helps to have them in mind early.
  3. We send a written quote for the unit.
  4. The unit is made in our workshop.
  5. We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Getting a quote

It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough measurements. To share them, get in touch through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Do you need TV and media units in Rosehill?

A new, larger TV often prompts it. The old stand no longer suits it, or the screen takes over the room. Shelves and cupboards around the screen make it sit better in the room.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • Space for a soundbar and speakers
  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go
  • A cabinet that traps heat
  • Wasted space around the screen

Nonsuch Mansion, about 2.6 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote

Common questions about TV and media units

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Rosehill?

Yes, Rosehill is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Sutton and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Rosehill?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

How is the price worked out?

Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You will get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.

How long does it take to fit a TV unit?

The time on site depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

Getting it in is planned during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Do pictures help?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Living-room carpentry in Rosehill: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 69% of the housing in the area around Rosehill, with about 10% built between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Rosehill is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home in Rosehill is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.

If you live in a period home close to St Peter's Church, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Hill House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Rosehill is part of the London Borough of Sutton, about 1 mile south of Sutton. We can visit homes in Rosehill on weekdays, or on a Saturday by arrangement. Our work takes in places right across Sutton, large and small.

We work across SM5, SM4 and SM1. Streets in the area include Kelso Road, Selby Road and Quarr Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for TV and media units. If you’re just outside Rosehill, we also cover St Helier (1 mile south-west), Benhilton (1 mile south-west), The Wrythe (1 mile south-east), Carshalton (1 mile south-east) and Sutton (1 mile south). We also make TV and media units in nearby places like North Cheam (2 miles south-west), Bandonhill (3 miles south-east), Shanklin Village (3 miles south), Beddington (2 miles east), Roundshaw (3 miles south-east) and Cheam (3 miles south-west).

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

An off-the-shelf TV stand is cheaper and quick to buy. A stand is also simple to swap when technology moves on. A built-in unit is planned for your room and your equipment. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Take a look at bespoke vs off-the-shelf and what a quote should include.

What it costs

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • The width and height of the space
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Spray painting or hand painting

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

What we need to know

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What the furniture needs to hold

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

What we do not do

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Connecting the TV signal or internet
  • Connecting and setting up your equipment
  • Moving sockets or adding new wiring, which is for your electrician

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
