Need TV and media units in Old Town?
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf TV units come in a few set colours. Ours are painted in a colour agreed with you, sprayed in the workshop or painted by hand. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.
Why choose us
- More than 300 projects completed
- A spray or hand-painted finish
- We visit, measure and talk through the design before we quote

TV and media units in Old Town: what you get
TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in a colour agreed with you. We fit across Croydon and the rest of London, after a design visit and a quote in writing. Most enquiries start with a tangle of wires behind the TV and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Open-plan living is usual in homes built since 2000, and many homes around Old Town were built in that time. In a room like that, TV and media units can help separate the sitting area from the kitchen, without putting up a wall. Finished floors in newer homes mark easily, so they’re covered while we work.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What affects the price in Old Town
There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- How square the room is
- Parking near your home
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Doors and drawers, and how many
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking during the design visit.
What we need to know
To help us picture the room, please include:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- How you want to use the space
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Do you need TV and media units in Old Town?
The most common reason is a mess of wires. Cables run everywhere, from the screen to the boxes and the wall, and no stand ever quite hides them. A built-in unit gives them a planned route.
TV and media units can help with:
- Space for a soundbar and speakers
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
Close to Duppas Hill? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.
What to check before you book
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Have they thought about parking near you?
Questions from Old Town
Does a conservation area in or near Old Town affect fitted furniture?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
I live in a flat in Old Town. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Will the cables be hidden?
Cable routes are built into the design, with openings and access panels. Where cables reach the wall depends on the sockets, and your electrician can move them if needed.
How much will my TV unit cost?
Every job is priced for its room: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You will get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.
Where should speakers go in a TV unit?
Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closing speakers behind a door muffles them.
Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket, with a route for the cables. The bracket needs a sound wall.
How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. The sections are assembled in the room.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the unit you have in mind, including the size of the screen.
- We come to measure, note the sockets and agree the layout. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it is useful to have them in mind early.
- You receive a quote in writing setting out the unit, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
- Each section is built in our workshop to the measurements we took, with openings for cables and air.
- We fit it in your home, with the cable routes ready to use. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.
Before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
How to get a quote
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

What else we make in Old Town
Could you do it yourself?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
